The NOMOS Europeans in the States!
This year, NOMOS supports 7 European volleyball players from Belarus and Bulgaria who compete in Division 1 Universities across the United States. Our one and only Agata Beksha from Belarus, a redshirt freshman middle blocker, is competing for Tulane University and made her Green Wave debut against North Texas recording a total of 8 kills!
Starting with our youngest Bulgarian, Michaela Harizanova, who is a member of the UIC volleyball team after attending the 2023 NOMOS EVE in Athens, is looking to have a very successful year with the Flames, and already saw some action in the legendary (and packed) Fieldhouse at Wisconsin! Next, our 3 juniors from Sofia: Nicole Dankinova, an opposite hitter at Princeton University, Alexandra Koleva, a setter at Florida A&M University, and Mila Ilieva, a middle blocker at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, currently ranked 7th in her conference for total blocks.
Lastly, regarding our 2 Sofian seniors: Darina Kumanova, an outside hitter who finished 3rd on her team last year for total kills, has taken part in 12 out of the 13 matches, and has recorded a total of 82 kills so far, with her best performance being against North Carolina, where she recorded 11 kills and 10 digs.
Tsvetelina Ilieva, an outside hitter for Binghamton University, started her senior year by raising the bar even higher-she set a new career high of 27 kills against Delaware State and has had 6 double-doubles in 13 matches! She was also an All-Tournament Honoree in 3 tournaments this season: the Bearcat Classic, the Lehigh Steel Classic, the UCONN Dog Pound Challenge, and was named the America East Player of the Week on September 12th. As if was not enough, she currently holds the 3rd place for total points, 5th for total kills, 12th for total aces, 36th for points per set, and 50th for kills per set in NCAA Division 1! Apparently Tsveti wants to do even better than her Honorable Mention All-American award in 2022.
