Mandilaris’ Ball State ends 1st in MIVA! Mandilaris and Chakas break records again, having top standings nationally in NCAA VB!

With a new record in aces, Mandilaris is now preparing for the championship! Along with the team’s ranking of 1st place in MIVA, Mandilaris has high personal rankings in his conference but also nationally. In his conference, he is 2nd for points and kills, 5th for hitting percentage, 9th for blocks and 10th for aces, while nationally he is 4th for kills/set and points. Along his side, the double-trouble from Hawaii have high standings too. In their conference, Mouchlias is 6th for points, 7th for hitting percentage and kills, 8th for aces and 11th for blocks. Chakas is 5th for aces, 7th for points, 8th for kills, 9th for hitting percentage, 18th for digs and 20th for blocks, while nationally he is 18th for aces/set!

With 2 matches left until the end of the regular season, the University of Hawaii (20-5, 5-3 The Big West) of Mouchlia and Chaka added 2 wins and 2 losses in their record and now have the 4th place nationally from the coaches’ poll and 8th based on the rating percentage index. More specifically regarding the 4 matches, on April 1st and 2nd they lost 3-1 to #1 Long Beach State, and on April 8th and 9th they defeated UC Santa Barbara in 3 and 5. Michalis Kagialis & Nikos Kalagasidis

 

After 10 weeks of matches, the California duo has completed its athletic duties for this year and is now recharging its batteries. The RedHawks, after a good season, managed to secure a place in the CalPac semifinals. On April Fools, however, they faced the undefeated Benedictine University at Mesa, which also won the championship, and lost in 3. Kagialis scored 4 kills and 1 solo block while Kalagasidis had 23 assists and 3 digs. Simpson University finished the year with 8 wins and 10 losses, being in 4th place with 7-5 in CalPac. The middle blocker from Athens scored a total of 104 kills, 3 assists, 5 aces, 33 digs and 55 blocks with his best appearance being on 27/3 with a record of 13 kills and 16 points. The setter from Thessaloniki had a total of 3 double-doubles, 49 kills, 541 assists, 15 aces, 104 digs and 30 blocks with his best appearance being on 28/1 with 51 assists and 9.5 points. Regarding rankings in their conference, Kagialis finished 3rd in blocks/set and Kalagasidis 4th in assists/set.

Angelos Mandilaris

The regular season in the MIVA conference is over with Mandilaris' Ball State ending up in 1st place! With 12 wins and 2 losses (20-3 overall) the Cardinals got a ticket to the quarterfinals to be held at home. In addition to the 1st place in MIVA, Ball State is in the 3rd place nationally based on the rating percentage index and in the 7th from the coaches' poll. Regarding their last 4 matches, the Cardinals added 3 wins, while breaking their 10 win-streak with one defeat.More specifically, on 31/3 in the sweep against McKendree, Mandilaris being the 1st scorer scored 13 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks and 9 digs and on April 2nd in the sweep against Lewis being again the top scorer, he had 19 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks and 7 digs. On April 7th, after 1.5 months of victories, the Cardinals were defeated by Loyola, with Mandilaris scoring 14 kills, 2 blocks and 6 digs. But on 9/4 with a new season high 4 aces, 3 blocks and 6 defenses, in the victory over Purdue Fort Wayne, the young man from Chalkida scored 15 kills, marking the 11th match in a row that has a double digit number of kills!
