Pomegranates break in January, records in February! Hawaii University- Ball State: The 1st Civil War of 2022!

Another strong week for the boys with new personal records. Starting with the Greeks of Hawaii, where they had new season and personal highs with 21 kills and 10 digs for Mouchlias and 15 kills for Chakas. A few days later, Chakas set another new record for aces with 7! Season and personal high for Kalagasidis with 51 assists in the big victory against HIU! Gkitersos also made his first appearance with the new team!

While the last week of January left a bitter taste for Hawaii University (7-2), February started very energetically! After 2 defeats against Mandilaris' Ball State with 3-0 and 3-2, the Rainbow Warriors managed to get 3 consecutive victories against FDU (3-0), Queens (3-0) and Stanford (3-1) . More specifically, these are the stats of Mouchlias and Chakas:

Michalis Kagialis & Nikos Kalagasidis

One win and one loss were added to Simpson’s University (1-3) record. On January 28th, in the derby against Hope International University, the Redhawks managed to get the victory in 5. Kagialis scored 7 kills, 6 block assists and 1 dig, while Kalagasidis had a new personal record with 51 assists! Nikos also had 5 kills, 2 aces, 5 blocks and 6 digs. Then, on the 29th, in the defeat to # 3 Vanguard University, Kagialis had 1 kill and 2 blocks, while Kalagasidis had 1kill, 14 assists and 3 digs.

Christos Gitersos

Gitersos’ Concordia University continues being undefeated, entering February with a perfect 5-0! So far, the CU Eagles have faced Saint Xavier (3-1), Saint Katherine (twice 3-0), The Master’s (3-0) and # 13 UC San Diego (3-1). The young setter made his debut with his new team on January 28th in the ‘dub’ over Saint Katherine. The junior from Chalkida helped his team to reach the victory quickly, scoring 13 assists, 1 kill, 1 dig and 1 block assist.

Angelos Mandilaris
With a positive record, 3 wins and 1 defeat, Mandilaris's Ball State (6-1) continues its season, now preparing for their first conference match next week. On January 29th and 31st, the Cardinals faced # 1 University of Hawaii where they won in 3 and 5, offering an amazing spectacle to the fans who were watching. Mandilaris once again showed that he perfrorms better under pressure playing with the # 1 of the USA, having 14 kills, 3 blocks and 3 digs in the first match and 25 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks and 9 digs in the second. Then, on February 4th and 5th, they faced Brigham Young University where they lost in 5 and won in 4. The graduate assistant from Chalkida participated only in the first match recording 6 kills and 1 dig.
