Conference rankings for Ayhan, Illieva and Tore! New career highs for Yetis, Koyuncu and Ucar! Karacaova with another double-double!

Beste Ayhan is in 2nd place in America East for hitting percentage and first for total blocks, while still Top-10 overall in blocks in NCAA D1! Mila Ilieva is in 10th place in America East for hitting percentage and Melisa Tore is in 5th place in Conference USA for serving aces! Hande Yetis, Sevgi Koyuncu and Irem Ucar broke their personal records and added new career-highs to their resumes with 41 assists, 8 assists and 48 assists respectively! In the match against UCSB, Sabire Karacaova put down 17 balls and picked up 15 hits!

Beste Ayhan & Mila Ilieva
Heading into the last 2 weeks of conference, UMBC volleyball is holding a 10 winning streak and is in the 1st place of the America East conference. This past week, Trievers managed to win over Hartford in 4 (17-25, 25-22, 19-25, 14-25) on Friday, October 29th. Mila Ilieva and Beste Ayhan both had great performances during the game and both were extremely helpful and effective in their position. Freshman Mila had 11 kills and 3 blocks, while Beste had 7 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, 1 dig and 2 blocks. The young internationals both own a position on the hitting percentage leaders of America East, with Beste being in 2nd place (0.364) and Mila in the 10th (0.235)! Also, Beste still is in first place for blocks in the conference (114) and she appears determined to hold her top spot in the AEC and Top-10 ranking nationally.

Melisa Nur Temiz & Melisa Tore 
The MTSU volleyball team picked up their first win of the week, downing the FAU in five sets (25-18, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16,15-13). MTSU moved up to a 5-0 record at home and a 6-3 record in C-USA. Melisa Nur Temiz had 7 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, and 10 digs while Melisa Tore had 2 digs and an ace. Even though MTSU was up 2-0, they came out on the wrong end of the decisive fifth frame and FAU earned a 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-13, 11-15) win on Saturday evening. Melisa Tore had 5 aces while Melisa Nur Temiz had 6 kills, 1 assist, 3 blocks, and 10 digs.

Hande Yetis 
The UTEP volleyball team (17-5, 6-3 Conference USA) showed remarkable resilience with a 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 15-9) victory against UTSA on Friday evening at the Convocation Center.  Setter Hande Yetis tallied 26 assists, 1 block, and 5 digs. Second match of the week, facing UTSA again, UTSA took their revenge and  picked up the 3-2 (21-25, 25-14, 25-21, 30-32, 17-19) win on Saturday at the Convocation Center. Yetis recorded a career-high of 41 assists and she also added 6 digs.

Sevgi Koyuncu 
Koyuncu’s LMU(8-16, 4-10) got back in action on their home court last week. The Lady Railsplitters suffered a 3-0 loss on the 26th against Lenoir-Rhyne. Graduate student libero Sevgi recorded 2 assists and 23 digs. Then, Lincoln Memorial University got the Halloween weekend started on the 29th with a match against Anderson, but fell in three sets to the Trojans. Koyuncu had 3 assists and 12 digs. Lastly,on the day where Sevgi and two more seniors were honored for their careers, the Lady Railsplitters were able to capture a thrilling five-set victory over Newberry on the 30th. In her last home match, Sevgi Koyuncu recorded 8 assists (new career high) , 3 aces and 19 digs.

Irem Ucar  
First match of the week, facing JSU, the Rattlers swept JSU (25-22, 26-24, 25-22) for their 13th 3-0 victory of the season, improving to 16-6, 8-2 SWAC. Irem Ucar recorded 3 kills, 42 assists, 1 ace, 2 blocks, and 11 digs. Playing 3 matches in a row last weekend, FAMU volleyball was unbeatable. First match, against Grambling, setter Irem Ucar had 4 kills, 22 assists, 2 blocks, 7 digs. Against Texas Southern, she had 2 kills, career-high 48 assists, 1 ace, 3 blocks, and 11 digs. Lastly against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, she had 1 kill, 30 assists, 2 aces, 3 blocks, and 9 digs.

Sabire Karacaova
UC San Diego volleyball added one win and one loss to their record this past week, and now they have a 4-17 overall and a 3-8 conference record. The girls first played CSUN on Friday, October 29th and managed to win in 4 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18). However, the next day they faced UC Santa Barbara and unfortunately, they lost in 4 (25-16, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18). Sabire Karacaova had 2 solid performances and was an offensive leader for both of them. For the first match, she had 12 kills along with 5 digs and 1 assist. For the second one, against UCSB she had a double-double with 17 kills and 15 digs. Also, she scored 3 aces.

Alexandra Koleva
October ended in the best way possible for Tyler College and Alexandra Koleva. The Apaches recorded their 16th and 17th 3-0 win of the season making it to an amazing 21-10 record (9-6 conference)! On the 26th, against Wharton County CC, Koleva had another solid performance with 2 kills, 33 assists, 1 ace, 5 digs and 1 solo block. Two days later, on the 28th, at the last home game of 2021 against Victoria College, Koleva had 40 assists, 2 aces and 7 digs.

Berra Tok
The Minot State volleyball team took the first set, but couldn't hold on and lost 3-1 to the Mary Marauders on the 28th at home at MSU Dome. Freshman Berra Tok recorded 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 block and 2 digs. Two days later and on the second day of Halloweekend, the Beavers could not overcome a dynamic Wolves offense, falling to Northern State on the road in straight sets. Tok had 1 kill in that match. The losses dropped Minot State's record to 1-20 overall and 1-14 in NSIC play.

Asli Erdi
Erdi’s Eastern Wyoming College recorded their 11th win of this season and got the Halloween weekend started off with a sweep against Laramie County CC. Asli Erdi recorded 5 kills in 7 attempts (0,714 hitting percentage), 2 aces and 2 solo blocks. With the win, the Lancers advanced to a 11-12 overall record and 6-6 in conference play. 

Elif Yasar & Isil Yilmaz
Yasar and Yilmaz’s Odessa ended October by adding one win and one loss to their record making it 14-6 overall and 7-5 in conference. On the 27th, the Wranglers easily swept Clarendon College in Clarendon Texas. Freshman libero Isil Yilmaz recorded 1 assist and 4 digs. Three days later, at Midland Texas, the Odessa women’s volleyball team suffered their 6th loss of the season against Midland College Yasar had 3 assists,1 ace and 1 dig while Yilmaz had 1 assists and 14 digs.

Karya Suvarioglu
Guess which NJCAA D1 team remained undefeated throughout October? It’s Suvarioglu’s New Mexico Military Institute! The Broncos not only have not lost since September 25th, but also now have 14 winning streak! After adding last week’s dubs, they now have an amazing 27-4 overall record. On the 27th, in the first sweep of the week against Midland College, Turkish setter Suvarioglu recorded 16 assists and 1 dig. Lastly, on the 30th, in the sweep against Frank Phillips College, she had 1 kill, 19 assists, 1 dig and 2 blocks.

Elif Su Yavuz
Auburn University volleyball played against LSU for this week on Friday, October 29th. Unfortunately, the girls lost in 3 (25-16, 24-23, 25-17). Elif Su Yavuz continued to start in the lineup for the Tigers and managed to contribute to her team with 1 kill, 2 digs, and 4 blocks, from which 1 was solo. Including that loss, the Tigers’ wins to losses ratio is 12-9 and their conference record dropped down to 4-7.

Ezgi Dokuzlar & Ece Erol
One win and one loss for Chicago State University this week. The Cougars played with Dixie State University and won in 3 (25-16, 25-16, 25-18) on Thursday, October 28th and 2 days later, they faced Utah Valley University, but they lost in 4 (16-25, 25-16, 23-25, 18-25). Ezgi Dokuzlar was an offensive leader for both matches with 12 kills. Also, she contributed with 2 digs and 1 block. Meanwhile, freshman Ece Erol was one of the defensive leaders, with 20 digs in total and 4 aces!

Yagmur Cinel & Damla Tokman 
The Hofstra volleyball team handled UNCW, topping them in 4 sets on Friday night inside Redbird Arena. Yagmur Cinel, since she entered later in the game, helped her team win the 3rd set by getting 3 kills in a row. Yagmur Cinel finished the match with 5 kills and 1 block while Damla Tokman finished with 9 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks and 1 dig. A complete and efficient offensive effort by the Hofstra volleyball team, lifted the squad to a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19) victory over UNCW on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.  The wins improved the Pride's record to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Damla Tokman had 5 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks, and 1 dig while Yagmur Cinel had 4 digs in just the 1st set.

Cagla Bengi & Tsveti Ilieva 
The Seton Hall volleyball team lost in four sets to Villanova (22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25) last Friday. Tsveti Ilieva had 8 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks, and 4 digs while setter Cagla Bengi had 1 kill, 21 assists, 2 aces and 4 digs. A complete and efficient offensive effort by the Seton Hall volleyball team, lifted the squad to a 3-1 victory over Georgetown,  3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22) last Saturday. Seton Hall improves to 12-14 overall on the season and 4-8 in the BIG EAST. A remarkable thing to add is that the Pirates had at least 10 team blocks for the 10th time this season. Tsveti Ilieva had 5 blocks, 7 digs, 11 kills and 2 aces while Cagla Bengi had 24 assists and 8 digs.

Doga Topcicek 
The Bradley University volleyball team (13-11 overall, 9-4 MVC) rallied in five sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14) victory over Missouri State Friday. With this win Bradley Volleyball moved into third in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. Sophomore outside Doga Topcicek finished with 1 kill and 3 digs. Second match of the week, facing Southern Illinois, Bradley swept SIU in 3 sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-21) on the road. The Braves are 9-4 to start MVC play for a fourth consecutive season and seventh time overall. Doga Topcicek had 2 kills, 2 assists and 3 digs.

Ada Bulgur
UTRGV volleyball had a tough and long week. The girls played 3 matches, and they accomplished to win one of them against A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday, October 25th in 5 (20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 16-14). Then, they faced Sam Houston on Thursday, October 28th and lost in 4 (14-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-25). Two days later, they were defeated by Stephen F. Austin in 3 (16-25, 31-29, 16-25, 21-25). Ada Bulgur had a short play time during last week, but she managed to help her team with 4 kills, 1 ace, and 2 digs in total.

Peyman Yardimci
Entering the last month of the regular period of conference, University of Miami volleyball owns the great overall score of 19-3, with only 2 of the 3 losses being in conference. For this past week, Miami Hurricanes added 2 more wins in their record, one against Syracuse on Friday, October 29th with score 3-1 (21-25, 20-25, 25-18, 21-25) and one against Boston College two days later with score 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 14-25). Peyman Yardimci, for one more time, was one of the offensive leaders for her team. For the first match she had 13 kills, 3 aces, 4 blocks and 4 digs, while for the second she had 9 kills, 7 blocks, 1 ace and 1 dig.
