Bearcats’ Bombshell!

Cincinnati women's volleyball recorded the biggest win in the program’s history.

Tziarli and Stamatiou threw Final Four favorites and hosts Pittsburgh Panthers out of the NCAA tournament.

Dimitra Tziarli and Chrysanthi Stamatiou’s University of Cincinnati shocked the 2019 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship by winning 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21, 15-13) against the University of Pittsburgh (in a Greek battle vs Pitt’s Zoi Faki) in the second round of the National Championship!

Pitt was ranked No. 2 in the country and a favorite for the title with a record of 30-1. Pitt will host the Final Four this December, but will not be there to try and claim the trophy!

Great performance with 4 points and participation in 8 critical blocks (one at the 14-13 point of the 5th set) by Tziarli, while Faki had one point for the losing side.

The highlight of the match was the 5th set, where Pitt started with 4-0, Cincinnati made a 5-4 comeback and did not lose the game despite Pitt's 9-6 and 12-9 lead!

The next challenge for Cincinnati (27-6) is Penn State (26-5) which is ranked No. 11 in the country on Friday, December 13th at the Stanford regional for the Sweet Sixteen phase.

In the first round of the National Tournament, Pitt beat Howard 3-0 set (25-9, 25-21, 25-14), while Cincinnati overcame VCU 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-23).

Towson University (28-2) of 19-year-old Fay Bakodimou managed to beat American (24-7) 3-2 set (25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12) but then lost 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 17-25, 20-25) to Penn State (25-5).

A magical season finale for St. John's (22-11) of Efrosini Alexakou (14 points) and Ariadni Kathariou (3.5 points) after losing 3-0 (25-27, 21-25, 12-25) to Texas A&M University (21-7) .

Nafsika Papavasileiou 

The season for 19-year-old freshman Nafsika Papavasileiou’s Lindsey Wilson College (No. 10) is over.

Columbia KY’s University reached the Sweet 16 of the 40th Annual NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship and lost 3-2 to Jamestown's No 8-ranked team.

Lindsey Wilson College had a 32-6 overall record while Nafsika competed in 38 sets, scoring 46.5 points with 41 assists.
