Anastasia Galanou in the USA!

galanou

The 18-year-old outside hitter signed to pursue her academic and athletic collegiate career at the University of Villanova

Another athlete will represent Greek volleyball in the States in the upcoming years and will make her dream come true.

Anastasia Galanou became the 5th athlete who received a scholarship this year with the help of Nomos after Baka, Haritonidi, Georgatzi and Sherolli.

The 18-year-old outside hitter played at Thetis Voulas, and played an impressive season at the Women's Volleyleague (first women’s league in Greece) where her team ended up taking the fourth place in the championship with 45 points (16-6 record).

Galanou will attend and play for the next four years (2019-2023) at Villanova, a historic university in Pennsylvania, which is actually the oldest Catholic university in the area and was founded in 1842!

Now, after the signing of Galanou by Vilanova, there will be a Greek civil war in the Big East conference, as Alexakou and Kathariou are members of the women’s volleyball team of Saint John’s University and they will face Galanou and Villanova in Conference action.

Last year Villanova had a 17-14 record and 10-8 in the conference, reaching the semi-finals of the Big East conference tournament, where it was eliminated 3-0 by Creighton University (No9 at the time nationally).

The University's greatest achievements in the 37 years’ history of the championship are its participation in two finals of the conference in 2015 and 1997.

"Anastasia will give us momentum"

Josh Steinbach, coach of Villanova, said: "We are excited to finalize the class and I think it’s one that fills some needs for us. It is a class that can help complement our returning group. Anastasia hits it really hard and out of the things we are looking for in our conference, you have to really bang it to score and she can do that. That is what we are looking from her, the ability to hit the ball hard and give us fire power from the outside."
